Introducing collectionPoint QuickStart
Gibson Publishing Connections and codeMantra have been supporting the digital distribution programs of Canadian publishers since 2005 with digital asset management (DAM) and file conversion services.
In that period we have assisted nearly 100 Canadian publishers in engaging with ebook distribution channels; we have delivered royalty revenue of over $12 million to these publishers through the Canadian Electronic Library; and we have assisted members of the Association of Canadian Publishers, Access Copyright and other copyright owners to digitize and convert over 10,000 titles to various ebook formats.
This experience has led to the development of collectionPoint QuickStart: a new utility designed to allow smaller and medium-sized publishers to enter the digital marketplace with confidence.
QuickStart allows publishers to manage these essential functions:
• storage of metadata and source files
• file conversion
• delivery of files and metadata to distribution partners
QuickStart also gives publishers direct access to technical expertise. The technical team behind the service is always available to answer questions and provide guidance and training for clients. The importance of this element in the rapidly-evolving digital book world cannot be overstated.
At the same time as QuickStart puts the technical aspects of conversion and delivery into the hands of professionals, it leaves management decision-making with the publisher. Rights owners need to maintain this control in order to shape their policies as conditions change.
Designed for economy and simplicity, QuickStart is an affordable first step. As publishers gain digital expertise, they may move in future to more ambitious platforms, building on the resources and capabilities developed here. All files created on the system are fully accessible and transferable by the owner at any time.
